Overview

Jira is a proprietary issue-tracking product developed by Atlassian that allows for ease of tracking issues, managing projects, and more.

The request portal can be utilized by users to create their own issue requests, as well as follow the status and follow-up with, the requests they're already a part of.

The technician dashboard can be utilized by licensed technicians to manage all the requests and projects they have access to.

Logging In

All users can login at the request portal. Sign up for an account and password reset links are also found on the Jira login page.

Auto-Created accounts do not need to be created manually. Manual accounts must be created by the user themselves.

Anyone with login issues may contact the Oakland Schools Service Desk for assistance if they continue to have trouble logging in, or wish to put in a request over the phone.

Mobile Application

Oakland Schools uses a 3rd party addon and mobile application for a better Jira experience on mobile devices and tablets. The application is free to download and can be found on the iOS and Android App Stores. There are two separate applications, one for the user Portal experience for putting in requests, and another for the Technician experience.

Users with Multi-Factor enabled, MUST use the "Login with Globe" button, instead of the "Proceed to Login" button.

Login with your username and password, and after doing so, it should redirect you to a proper looking mobile application instead of the web view.

Two Factor Authentication (2FA/MFA)

2FA, also known as MFA for instances of Multi-Factor authentication, is an identity and access management security method that requires two forms (or more) of identification to access resources and data. MFA gives everyone the ability to help better safeguard their most vulnerable information and networks. This authentication comes in many forms, such as knowledge (normal passwords), possession (hardware tokens, badges, personal devices), and inheritance (facial, eye, and fingerprint recognition). The combination of two or more of these methods provides a massively increased security safeguard against unwanted access by attackers and hackers.

2FA/MFA in Jira

Technicians will be required to addon at least one level of security on top of their normal password. The first time you login after being mandated for 2FA/MFA, you will be prompted to add one of the following below to your account. At any time after logging in, you may add, remove, or change your connected MFA methods from the profile picture in the top right of the technician side of Jira. You will be only required to authenticate with ONE of your methods, no matter how many you add. You are able to choose at the time of login which you want to use.

Mobile Authenticator (TOTP)

After selecting this authentication type, you will be prompted with the 2FA configuration screen, giving you the most common types of authenticator apps available and used, and what platforms they are available on. You can utilize any TOTP platform, even if its not listed, such as Bitwarden.

Next, you are prompted with a QR code or secret key to be utilized by the authentication app to generate your code.

A guide can be found by mini-orange here.

Hardware Token (Yubiikey, etc.)

After selecting this authentication type, you will be asked to insert your hardware token. You will then need to accept any onscreen popup prompts and then touch either the metal contacts or press the button on the hardware token, depending on the type you have.

Duo Mobile Push Notification

After selecting this authentication type, you will be prompted to "Click Here" to configure DUO Push Notification. This will start the setup for DUO. This product is licensed and managed through Oakland Schools.
